David Lemieux V Glen Tapia Predictions!

By Krakrabbit

Saturday night, fight fans will be treated to a 12 round fight for the vacant WBO NABO middleweight belt when David Lemieux, (34-3, 31KOs) battles Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia, (23-2, 15KOs), live from the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Lemieux opened the contest as the betting favorite and the lines have only moved around slightly since opening. Currently, you can get Lemieux at roughly -1000 while Tapia supporters get the underdog cash at +650.

The O/U on the bout is set at 6.5 rounds, with the over coming in at +120 and the under at -160. Lemieux by KO comes in at -360, while Lemieux by decision will get you +335. Tapia by KO hits the mark at +1200, and Tapia by decision lands at +2200. The odds of the fight being declared a draw sit at +3300.

David Lemieux and Glen Tapia are, to be perfectly frank, hard hitting, aggressive, defensively liable competitors who are sure to light the T-Mobile Arena on fire for fight fans all over the world when they step into the ring on Saturday night.

Lemieux is fresh off a loss against fellow heavy-handed powerhouse and perhaps one of the most feared punchers in the sport; Gennady Golovkin. An exciting fight from the opening bell despite its one-sided nature, the contest was called to a halt in the eighth round as Lemieux absorbed too much punishment and was finally saved from a further drubbing.

The Canadian showed great resolve in the matchup but was simply outgunned from the opening bell and could not get past the technical superiority of Golovkin. Or the stiff jab. Or the crushing punching power. Or the fact that everything Golovkin hit Lemieux with clearly buzzed him.

Beyond that fight though, David Lemieux has been showing excellent improvements in his recent outings, destroying fighters like Fernando Guerrero, Gabriel Rosado and Hassan N’dam N’jikam (an underrated fighter that simply does not get enough recognition).

However, as I touched on previously, Lemieux is still a defensively liable fighter who is not afraid to get hit twice for an opportunity to land one of his own. With legitimate punching power in both hands, David’s gameplan is not necessarily a bad one, as he is often able to break his opponents down with little more than pressure and force.

That said, he faces another man with a similar style on Saturday night when he steps into the ring with the younger, determined Glen Tapia. The man known as the “Jersey Boy” has been out of action for a full year and was most recently seen in a war against Michel Soro, being stopped in the fourth round after a barrage of shots rendered him defenseless.

Glen Tapia is a hard-charging brawler with that stereotypical Jersey toughness in every centimeter of his heart and soul, but he lacks the raw talent to compete at an elite level and at this point of his career, it appears Tapia’s durability is actually waning, as well.

Undoubtedly that is the most telling sign of why David Lemieux is as heavily favored as he is in this matchup – and for entirely good reason, no less. Glen Tapia may find some success by simply landing punches on a fighter who does not focus on defense, but David is a harder hitting, more precise brawler who will beat Tapia at his own game and break him down fairly quickly to end the bout early.
